Provinces call for ICCC presence

INDEPENDENT Consumer and Competition Commission boss, Paulus Ain has reported the need for ICCC offices in the provinces.

He made the remarks when responding to queries regarding its staffing presence around the country.

“We would like to have a presence in each province, unfortunately we are not adequately given the opportunity to be there in the provinces.”

“I went around myself to the provinces and they are really concerned saying that they need the ICCC presence in the province, unfortunately we are unable to but we are working towards it.”

“If the government is really helpful and comes good with us we can have that.”

He added that provinces were even keen to an extent in providing office space.

“Provinces are making offers to us with office locations but we are not there. We are only in Goroka, Kokopo, Lae, and Port Moresby alone.”

“The rest of the provinces we are yet to reach them, so what we are doing this year is that the regional operations have a weekly schedule- they go and visit the provinces for a week each and when they are there everything tends to be okay but when they return everyone goes back to their own thing.”

“So that is the problem we have at the moment.”
