MEMBERS of the Opposition have openly welcomed the latest inclusion to their ranks in the Member for Sinasina Yongumul MP and National Party leader, Kerenga Kua.
Reinstated Opposition Leader, Don Polye, thanked all the opposition members for their support- making special mention of the role the former attorney general plays in addressing national issues on the floor of parliament.
“Kerenga has been addressing very important issues, the values , the principles that he stands by and he has been making some very strong statements on the floor of parliament in regards to the current leadership under Peter O’Neill,” Polye said.
“Him being in the opposition will add a lot of value to the cause the Opposition stands for. The mission of the opposition is to serve the interest of the people of Papua New Guinea and we would like to see a future that is sustainable in the lives of our children.”
Polye added that with opposition growing its ranks they aim, on behalf of the people, to form a government based on honesty, on the justice, and rule of law.
“We will see very interesting events unfold on the 31st of May, next Tuesday, and we are sure that the people of Papua New Guinea see the issues and the signs that the current government must be changed.”
Shadow Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Dr Alan Marat congratulated Mr Kua, adding the wealth of experience the member brings to the opposition as valued.
“Mr Kua is an intellectual and he exudes intelligence and brings experience as a private legal practitioner and also as a businessman, as the former president of Papua New Guinea Law Society- and him joining the opposition will strengthen the standing of the opposition.”
“Mr Kua has a heart for the young people of this nation, the workers of this nations and for the whole economy that encompasses every individual citizen of this country from the young to old.”
Kua thanked the Opposition for accepting his request to move to their side of the house from the Government backbenches- stating his intentions to continue what he termed, “the voice of reason”.
“Since the day I came into parliament I have strived to be the voice of reason and of common sense within the National Executive Council which I was initially appointed to upon being elected to parliament,” Kua said.
“The same approach I took when I was in the government benches and I believe I bring the same approach as I join the opposition.”
“At the present time I feel that our government is not handling the issues that have set our nation in a way that is beneficial to the country.”
He said issues in countries were not unusual, but the challenge was in the way governments responded to them.
“I believe that this government has not been able to bring wisdom- make proper judgemental calls in critical instances when wisdom is required and proper judgemental call is required. None of them have been demonstrated,” he said.
“We have come to many critical junctures and positions, and the government has almost been criminally negligent in the way they issue those issues.”
“That includes for instance the way they design the budget, the way they go about their revenue raising for example the borrowing we have.”
