THE K160 million 6 Mile to Bautama four lane road upgrade project from the main feeder road from the Magi Highway into the nation’s capital, Port Moresby, is set to be completed on time and on budget.
Speaking to the Sunday Chronicle, contractor General Manager for Hebou Construction, Bret Young, said that the progress was ongoing with all four sections getting the required attention to get the job done.
He said the 14 kilometer road’s 19 month completion deadline, April 2017, would be met with construction reaching its peak along sections 2 and 4 in-between the starting points of the project.
“The project is progressing, and Hebou remains committed to it- to a quality project completed ahead of time and on budget,” Young said.
“We are close to opening up section 4 but we are ready to come back and consolidate the work that has been done thus far before opening up anymore of the road.”
“We have sections two and three which we are working on at the moment and now onto section four and then onto section one.”
When asked about the issue surrounding settlers and their relocation from the road corridors at 6 Mile- Young reiterated that the relocation program has nothing to do with the contractor and was purely done by the National Capital District Commission along with law enforcement agencies such as the police.
“Section one has the relocation program which has been commenced by NCDC and law enforcement agencies- nothing to do with us so once we have got the green light then we will go down and have a look at starting works there.”
“But we have to respect the people living there and allow then fair time, but we will finish the project ahead of schedule,” he added.
