OVER 700 Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) owners in the country will have a first-hand opportunity to take part in the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) E-commerce Summit that will include top Chinese business woman and e-commerce expert Diane Wang on the 25th of April.

Wang, who is a representative of ABAC China, will impart her experience in building one of China’s largest e-commerce platform, DHgate, to encourage the local SMEs in the country to promote internet based marketing.

Pioneering cross-border-e-commerce Wang’s e-commerce platform claims to have 40 million product listings from over 1.2 million Chinese suppliers and 10 million buyers from 230 different countries and regions.

Confirming the attendance of the DHgate founder, ABAC PNG representative Douveri Henao said that it will be a unique opportunity for local businesses to hear the success story of her journey to be a dominant force in e-commerce- which is making transactions via the internet.

“Diane is coming into PNG to share the journey her company went through and the transformation many SMEs undertook in e-commerce.”

“She herself has her own company called DH Gates Group, she was one of the pioneering e-commerce experts. In fact her and Jack Ma, who is the CEO and Chairman of Alibaba, they were both in the e-commerce in the early 90s when China was beginning to take great interest in the internet economy.”

“The benefit for SMEs in this space is that you do not go to physical markets and sit down there for 8 hours to sell your handicraft. You can take a photo of your handicraft and post it on a website and a person that wants that particular handicraft can immediately pay to your account. That is the philosophy behind e-commerce,” Henao said.

He added that apart from Wang speaking other speakers would include a Google executive based in Sydney speaking on marketing platforms.

“From a content point of view participants will have an 8 hour exposure consisting of 9 speakers on a whole gambit of the e-commerce space.”
