MEMBER for Goroka and Leader of the New Generation Party (NGP) Bire Kimisopa has hit out at all MPs in parliament for what he said was the subcontracting of responsibilities to the student movement which has paid dearly.

His comments came during his inaugural statement after the joining the Opposition ranks as of Friday.

“Rather strangely this parliament we have subcontracted our responsibilities as members of parliament to the student movement in this country to take on the responsibilities that is clearly our responsibilities as members of parliament,” he said.

“And for that the university is closed and a number of students have been severely brutalized. We can’t go on this same path and it is not leading us anywhere.”

“Our people have said essentially that they have lost confidence in the government.”

He said his party did not stand for the mess created in the country at the moment.

“We do not subscribe to the idea that you in government you have every right to do all kinds of things on the floor of parliament.”

“These are issues you cannot have in the parliament, parliament house is supposed to be reserved for leaders who understand the rule of law and the conventions that government parliament.”

“Essentially what we have done is embark on a new charter as far as the party is concerned. This is the right place to be in terms of what our people are saying and what the business community is saying also,” Kimisopa said.

The Goroka Member added that the continuation on the same path would have ramification into the future for the country.

“It will be deeply entrench in terms of debt, the social sector, and will play itself out for the next 20 or 30 years.”

“We have basically made a decision to change course and our numbers are significant but to make it clear we come with no conditions.”

“If we do not succeed at least we have made our decision and our position very clearly so the people of Papua New Guinea can know what we feel and where we think the nation should be heading.”
