MEMBER for Moresby South, Justin Tkatchenko, hailed the signing of contracts worth over K400 million for various road projects and a building contract in the National Capital District as great opportunities to maintain job numbers created by the Pacific Games this year.
He added that considering the timeframes for all five major contracts, the jobs will last over a two year period for city residents and the impacted communities that include his electorate which will host two of the major road contracts worth K279 million.
“For all the projects throughout the city after the Pacific Games, this will help employ a lot of our residents here in NCD to get those people new jobs,” Tkatchenko said.
“These jobs will probably last two year over the road contract period.”
“There is a lot of construction, drainage jobs that a lot of our youth and workers working on the Pacific Games can be a part of.”
He said the opportunities coming through will benefit the city in ensuring unemployment level are kept as low as possible- continuing the momentum of the Pacific games.
“When the commission board supported the (NCD) governor to get the loan from BSP it’s for a reason which is to back up the governor’s dream to making this city the best in the Pacific,” the MP added.
“It just shows you what can happen when all the open members are working with the governor.”
