THE Registry of Political Parties and Candidates (RPPC) has revealed plans to promote political parties in the country.
RPPC Registrar Dr Alphonse Gelu informed party executives last week of plans to create party flags to display publicly during a learning and development workshop hosted in Port Moresby.
He said it is an attempt by the registry to make parties visible to voters with the next national elections looming in 2017.
“What the registry will be doing is that we will be printing flags for all the political parties,” Dr Gelu said.
“We are in close discussion with the governor for NCD for us to put the flags in different sites in Port Moresby and one of those we thinking about is at the main roundabout next to SP Brewery and Courts sometime this year.”
“We will remove all the PNG flags and put your flags- the governor is happy to do that- at least we will put it up for a week and then we will remove them.”
He said that registry would continue the flag arrangement in intervals leading up to the elections and spread the initiative to other centers in the country.
“In 2016 we will do something like that again for a week, and just before the issue of writs in 2017 we will put your flags up again.”
“This is an attempt by the registry to make you known to the people. We will start with NCD and we will roll this exercise to other provinces.”
“But we can only do that if you provide us with your emblem or crest of your political party- that is one of the things that we are trying to do for you as political parties to market you to the people.”
