THE Digicel Foundation has opened nomination for its Men of Honour Award 2015.
After a successful inaugural awards campaign presented in 2014, the foundation is anticipating yet another great award campaign for this year.
In a conference held on Wednesday Digicel Foundation CEO Beatrice Mahuru called on all citizens to send in their nominations from all corners of the country for 5 categories and overall winner to be announced to March.
The Man of Honour Awards is a campaign against violence in Papua New Guinea and aims to break the cycle of violence by recognizing honourable men in communities to lead positive change in PNG.
Mahuru pointed out that the campaign was not only cantered around gender based violence, but was also aimed at empowering communities through programs initiated by the award winners.
The 6 awards are the Community Ingenuity Award, Sporting Mentor Award, Community Entrepreneur Award, the Community Education Champion, Community Leadership Award and the 2014 Man of Honour Award.
She said that the awards recognized what was built around years of hard work and dedication by each nominee and also the support from strong women in their life.
“The Man of Honour Awards is not a journey that has happened over night, but it is a journey that has happened for years,” Mahuru said.
“And with that journey all these gentlemen here have strong womenfolk who have taken the journey with them.”
She also thanked the partners involved in the 2014 Man of Honour campaign like Atlas Steel, The National newspaper, Digicel, and TV Wan- and called on other organisations to support the cause in 2015.
“The 2014 Man of Honour Awards received 392 nominations, from which a majority came from the Highlands Region,” she added.
“That was pleasing to see given the reputation that the region has, so we would like to see this year more representation from other provinces.”
“Nomination forms are available online at the Digicel Foundation website and at our Digicel offices and outlets.”
