SELECTED secondary schools in the Nation’s Capital held auditions during the week for a place in this year’s World Peach Orchestra to be held in the United States.

Auditions were held in the Paradise High School Library, with only one student chosen from the schools to represent the country among other traditional music players from the world.

School principle of Paradise High School, Safak Deliismail, is organizing the auditions. He gave details of the criteria that will be used to select a student.

“Auditions are limited to secondary students, and the chosen student must be well versed in playing any traditional instrument” he explained.

“Selected student will tour with the orchestra in the US- spreading the message of peace through music, from August to September.”

The highlight of the tour will when the orchestra plays for the United Nations Assembly in New York.

Gordon Secondary music teacher, Banaga Gabi, hailed the participation of Papua New Guinea as the first of its kind. He hailed it as a benchmark to promote traditional music in a world that is dominated by modern genres.

Judging is conducted by lecturers from the University of Papua New Guinea’s Arts Faculty. Auditions will continue this week.
