PREPARATIONS for this year’s Hiri Moale Festival in Port Moresby received an added boost thanks to the Lae Biscuit Company in the form of cash and kind amounting to over K22,000 in value.

The assistance came in the form of t-shirts, biscuits, and a K10,000 cheque given under the biscuit producer’s Snax Toti brand and presented to organizers of the festival from the Motu-Koita Assembly.

National Development Marketing Manager of Lae Biscuit Company James Tamari said that the company was proud to be a part of the festival, which he said was an ongoing commitment over the last 39 years since independence.

“We are proud to present a K10,000 cheque, biscuits worth K6,600 (300 cartons), and t-shirts worth K5,500,” Tamari said.

“That is a total assistance of K22,100 as our whole contribution, which Lae Biscuit is always proud to associate with the Motu-Koita people.”

He said the company was the single largest biscuit manufacturer in the country since 1975.

Festival committee member Misi Samual, while accepting the donations thanked the company on behalf of the people of Motu-Koita.

“Every time the festival is held, it is only possible through the generosity of companies like Lae Biscuit Company,” Samuel said.

“On that note in showing our appreciation we would like Lae Biscuit to take ownership of the main Ela Beach arena.”

“The word ‘moale’ is all about happiness and your support is a reflection of that happiness and willingness to give.”

The Hiri Moale Festival will be held on September 15 and 16 in collaboration with the country’s 29th Independence celebrations.

There will be about 70 dance groups consisting of 1,400 dancers, 70 canoes for the canoe race, along with the Hiri Hanenamo Queen pageant with 27 contestants various Motu-Koita villages, and the center piece of the festival the sailing of a three hulled lagatoi (traditional trading ship).

Other commitments have been received include that from Vitis Industries K10,000 and SP Brewer with a commitment of K20,000 that is yet to be received by the organizers.
