FOR 25 years, the hiring of taxies and PMVs were a norm and financial strain on the New Erima Primary school that has never had a school bus since its establishment in 1994, but thanks to its local member- the school was the recipient of a 15 seater bus presented last week.

Through the Member for Moresby North-East Labi Amaiu- the school was presented with a Nissan Nv350 bus to assist with its logistical needs.

Just a week ago the Mr Amaiu presented a similar vehicle to the Saint Peter’s Primary school in the same suburb in the electorate.

Mr Amaiu had followed through with his push to attend to the needs of schools in his district, and challenge them to take care of their vehicle.

Presenting the bus on behalf of the member who could not attend the ceremony- First Assistant Secretary to the MP Sam Philip said that the member’s plan was in line with the overall objective of the national government to fulfill it free education policy by providing the necessary support needed to accommodate it.

“This bus is being presented to you to service the school’s transportation needs to enable the effective learning of students from their teachers also,” Philip said.

“The government has given free education and Mr Amaiu wants to put more focus into education through all the areas of the needs of the students to the needs of the teachers through infrastructure projects.”

School Headmaster Hanobo Karibe thanked the Member for his generous assistance on behalf of 2,057 pupils that will benefit from it.

“From the bottom of my heart I want to thank all you representative from the office of the member, and this is an historic presentation since our school’s establishment in 1994,” Karibe said.

“All the years we have had assistance in terms of classrooms and other assistive materials- the difference with this presentation we have been given a vehicle for the first time.”

“It is important to help us with the schools day to day operations and of course assist us in cases of emergencies.”

The occasion was also planned to coincide with the opening of a new double classroom, which could not eventuate as the classroom did not meet the satisfaction of the MP in terms of their completion.
