THOSE were some of the words of gratitude used to describe NCD Governor Powes Parkop and the NCD Commission for their assistance towards provincial groups from the University of Papua New Guinea.

Governor Parkop presented separate cheques of K10,000 each to two student provincial groups from Western Highlands and Madang provinces.

Both groups expressed their gratitude to the city authority the tremendous support both provincial group presidents said that their own MPs could not give.

“I would like to thank NCD Governor you not the governor for NCD but from my perspective you are the governor of Papua New Guinea,” Western Highlands students president Joel Piam said.

“You are looking after the city where Papua New Guineans of all walks of life are moving in and out and these events unite our people and we are happy to be a part of making this city a better place, one that is conducive to live and work in.”

“This is one of our biggest plans in the year, and we have not had proper preparation for the event because our own MPs have not supported us and we were struggling with letters of assistance, but you have come on boards with one of the biggest amounts the association has received from any MP.”

Madang students president Donney Ledi shared the same sentiments, making a comparison to the NCD governor, wishing that his could do the same.

“If my governor could fund me like this it would be okay, but governor for NCD has done this and from my heart and on behalf of my students I would like to convey our thanks,” Ledi said.

Governor Parkop called on resident, especially those from both provinces to support the days by attending in support.

“As you know we have been supporting our students at UPNG to celebrate their various provincial days,” Parkop said.

“We started well with the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, and the New Ireland Provincial Day along with other groups from Oro, Solomon Islands, and Morobe.”

“I’d like to call on the residents of our city who are originally from those two provinces to come out and support the students celebrate their heritage.”

Both provincial days will be held at the Gerehu Secondary school sports oval- with Western Highlands on August 16 and Madang on August 30.
