DIGICEL Foundation PNG CEO Beatrice Mahuru revealed intentions to take stock of its current programs in the five key areas it has been investing in the last seven years and look at new areas associated with its current priorities.
She said that the organisation would look at investing more into the schools that it had impacted with the aim to fully utilize the infrastructures and their potential.
“We have a strategic planning meeting coming up to audit all the work that we have done to date to see what is working and what is not to see what we can do better,” Mahuru said.
“One of the areas that we would like to look at our investment going forward is revisiting those classrooms we’ve built the 450 to say what more can we do in those classrooms.”
“Because school runs from 8am to 2pm and then those infrastructure are not utilized for anything, but we know that from feedback parents have a desire to learn as well so they can help their children.”
She added that they are investigating ways to bring in training programs to utilize the facilities after school hours to create full learning hub for the communities where they have built infrastructure.
“One of the other things to look at is maybe social entrepreneurship, primarily in the engagement of women with utilizing mobile phones to generate their income.”
“And solar also is another area we are definitely looking into for communities.”
