POLITICAL Parties and Candidates Registrar Dr Alphonse Gelu revealed plans by the registry to take legal action against individuals in the latest spate of claims that have personally named him in reference to the proposed revised Organic Law on the Integrity of Political Parties and Candidates.
He made mention of individuals from the author of the InterOil security bulletin to posting on social network Facebook forums.
“The social media basically claimed that we did not change what the Supreme Court declared unconstitutional, which is again incorrect.”
“To us we at the registry our door are always open to welcome people like that to come here and we can explain this to them.”
“Instead of going to the social media and totally misleading the people of this country. In fact pointing fingers at various different people from the PM the registry and all those different people- that there is this thing that we are working with the government.”
He said that as of Monday he had spoken to lawyers’ possible action to be taken on the particular bulletin.
“I am very serious about this, because I think it is totally defamatory to people like myself. We can’t just allow people like this to come out and release false misleading information like this.”
“The first time I got the news I quickly went on radio by 5 o’clock (pm, Friday October 23) when many in the offices had received this email and I had to rush over and ask them to give me some time so that I could try and explain it quickly.”
“If you look at the nature of this statement, it all boils down to the national security of this country, especially issues of Law and order within Port Moresby.”
Gelu added that if people had taken up what the bulletin had stated, it could have caused problems on the streets of Port Moresby.
“Who will be held responsible for this?”
