A FORMER player came on board to support the Saroa Seida Raiders, last weekend, who took part in this year’s Lakwaharu 9s tournament during the week.
The Saroa village team, from the Rigo district, proudly took the field thanks to the generosity of one of its sons in, Nelson Saroa, who presented a full set of jerseys and registered the team in the tournament at the cost of K6,000.
The lawyer and former player told the team that the gesture was an opportunity for him to give back to the sport in the village.
“This is our village and with my firm I also have a guest house in Kavieng town, and I heard of the need you boys had for a set of jerseys for some time, and I decided to assist at a timely manner, which is now with the Lakwaharu Nines Tournament that you are taking part in,” Mr Saroa said.
“For me it is an opportunity for me to come and contribute to rugby league that we all cherish, commit ourselves to, and train towards archiving the best in the sport.”
He encouraged them to see sport as an opportunity to better themselves and create opportunities. Mr Saroa, besides being a former player of the village club, was also a former national player with the national AFL team, the PNG Mosquitos.
Sponsoring the team under his guest house accommodation business called, Inn Niuailan, he also has supported other sporting teams in netball and basketball through his law firm, Nelson Lawyers.
