MINISTER for Forests and Climate Change, Patrick Pruaitch announced that he would make a submission to cabinet for the Climate Change Open Day to be recognized at a national scale, last week at the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex in Port Moresby.
Announcing this in his address to those present, including the guest of honor and Deputy Prime Minister, Leo Dion, who stood in for the PM.
Mr Pruaitch made the call inline with the ministry’s plan to establish sub-committees on climate change in each of the 22 provinces.
The minister added that in order for the nation to truly understand and contribute in mitigating the effects of climate change- the day had to be held on a national scale to indoctrinate the country’s children and youths into taking ownership of the issue as individuals.
He made special mention of the presence of the many young children that attended the open day stressing that “Changing our mindsets”, the theme of the open day, begins with the young children of the nation, as it was a cross-cutting issue that threatens our very existence.
Sentiments that were supported by Deputy PM, who stated that the Government was in the process of changing its mindset also by moving into shifting policies in major core areas of governance and business to address the issue also at the state level.
Both the Minister and the Deputy PM concluded the opening ceremony, visiting some of the 37 booths from various stakeholders that were taking part in the open day.
