TREASURY Minister,
Don Polye, congratulated the Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) bank at the
soft-launch of their new mobile banking service ‘ANZ goMoney’ during the week (Tuesday)
at the Lamana Hotel in Port Moresby.
The service
enables customers to send money, pay their bills, purchase goods, view account
balances, and even their account transaction history all on their mobile
phones.
He was
impressed the mobile service “makes banking easier for all people, especially
in the rural areas of the country.”
He
acknowledged the efforts of the bank under its CEO Mark Baker and his team on
behalf of the government. Reiterating the strong historical link the bank has
to the development of the nation since its establishment over 100 years
ago.
“A key
factor in any developing economy is to provide the right environment and tools
to encourage the involvement of as many people as possible in the formal
economy.” Mr Polye said.
Small to Medium
Enterprises (SMEs) will benefit greatly from the service- in-line with the
government’s goal of having ‘Total financial inclusion for all’.
ANZ goMoney
will drive the 2013 budget theme to reality; Growing our Future: Empowering the
people for Inclusive and Sustainable growth.
Minister
Polye concluded his speech with a demonstration of how one should send money
via the goMoney service.
The full-launch
will be held on June 24.
