SELECTED
secondary schools in the Nation’s Capital held auditions during the week for a
place in this year’s World Peach Orchestra to be held in the United States.
Auditions
were held in the Paradise High School Library, with only one student chosen
from the schools to represent the country among other traditional music players
from the world.
School
principle of Paradise High School, Safak Deliismail, is organizing the auditions.
He gave details of the criteria that will be used to select a student.
“Auditions
are limited to secondary students, and the chosen student must be well versed
in playing any traditional instrument” he explained.
“Selected
student will tour with the orchestra in the US- spreading the message of peace
through music, from August to September.”
The
highlight of the tour will when the orchestra plays for the United Nations
Assembly in New York.
Gordon
Secondary music teacher, Banaga Gabi, hailed the participation of Papua New
Guinea as the first of its kind. He hailed it as a benchmark to promote
traditional music in a world that is dominated by modern genres.
Judging is conducted
by lecturers from the University of Papua New Guinea’s Arts Faculty. Auditions
will continue this week.
