NCD health to observe World TB Day

THE Department of Health through the NCD Health Division is set to commemorate World TB (Tuberculosis) Day on March 24 (next Monday), with a lead-up of activities set for the week beginning tomorrow.

World TB Day will commemorate the theme to ‘Reach the three million’, which is in reference to the World Health Organisation 2013 Global TB Report that highlighted that three million people are missed every year by health systems for the past 6 years around the world.

The themes emphasizes that no one should be left behind in the fight against TB in the move towards a Zero TB deaths world.

Thursday will see a float parade driven through the heart of the city beginning at 9am with representation from the police, World Vision, NCD Health, Port Moresby General Hospital, Tura the mascot of the Pacific Games, ST John Ambulance, and various business house reps- staring at the Unagi Oval and ending at the Jack Pidik Park at 5 Mile.

Saturday 9am, the TB Expo will be held at the Vision City Mall at Waigani, which will have various booths set up by various organisations aims at the prevention and treatment awareness of the disease.

Special guest to take part at the expo include Health Department Officials, NCD Governor Powes Parkop, Minister for Health Michael Malabag, and various representative from world health organisations and Pacific Games Organising Committee.
