NAMBAWAN Trophy Limited (NWTL) presented its contribution towards the victims of typhoon Haiyan, as a result of efforts by NWTL subsidiary restaurant Kopitiam Restaurant, with a cheque of more than K39,200.

The presentation was done at the Seaview Restaurant to the Philippines Association of Papua New Guinea (FAPNG), and the donation will be passed on through the PNG Red Cross through to the Philippines Red Cross.

FAPNG President Roel Sta Cruz thanked those from both the Philippines community and Papua New Guineans for their heartfelt contributions towards the cause.

First Secretary and Consul to the Philippines Embassy, Publito Mendoza, said that they were impressed with the response they received.

“From the first time we sent the advisory, it has taken life on its own.”

“We are very happy of our friends in PNG, including the expatriate community who have been very generous,” he said.

Over 10 million people have been affected, including 4 million children- 200,000 people have been displaced who need support on a daily basis.

Cruz said that rehabilitation would take a long time, and that ongoing efforts will continue to assist those affected as the reconstruction timeframe has been put at two years 18 months.

“Long term we will be looking at rebuilding homes, which is the main drive of the Philippines government and the private sector,” he said.
