INTERNATIONAL trainer and expert in intervention procedures Adam Chafetz from Health Communications Inc, made the remarks when asked about the issue of alcohol abuse and the debate of the responsibility on the side of consumers or the producers.

He was present in the country conducting a training program for responsible intervention in the serving of alcohol in establishments under the Training for Intervention Program with the South Pacific Brewery’s Responsible Drinking campaign.

“My thoughts on that are pretty straightforward. You are responsible for your own actions,” Chafetz said.

“It is really easy to blame the alcohol beverage industry- but when you look at the industry like SP Brewery, spend a lot of time making sure that people experience the quality of their product and if someone is intoxicated that experience goes out the door.”

“If they were not concerned so much about that than they would not be bothered about advocating responsibility.”

He said that as with all producers, products are a reflection of their producers, and producers are always mindful of the abuse of their products.

“The same with anything where you would not want people to abuse your product, so that is what I have found.”

“In terms of responsibility, it is all our responsibility, not only if we are drinking but if our friends are drinking also.”

“It is not just the industry and it is not just the hospitality industry, it is all of ours to step in and help each other out.”
