ONE of the biggest issues in the past with
foundations and aid agency projects in Papua New Guinean has been the
alignments with the state and local governments.
The Digicel PNG Foundation has reaffirmed its
commitment to working closely with provincial and district government plans to
enable synchronized efforts in achieving the goals set by both groups.
Speaking last week at the presentation of
counter-part funding to the foundation of K100,000 from the Central Provincial
Government for projects in the District of Goilala- Foundation CEO Beatrice
Mahuru reiterated their support in working within the plans of district and
provincial authorities.
“Governor this is where the conversation is
now crucial with you, so that we do not move outside of your plan so that we
complement it,” Mahuru told Central Governor Kila Haoda.
“Everything we are doing must
complement your plan for the province going forward, so any schools that apply
for funding to us, I will get my team to get in touch with you.”
Central governor Kila Haoda
agreed that the partnership was a win-win for both groups as doing it alone
would cost even more, so as to achieving their goals of faster service
delivery.
Mahuru added that with budget
limitations on both sides, collaboration was the way to go.
“The governor’s team has also got
plans for the next 5 years and they have got a limited budget to fit through
that period, and we have got a limited budget as well,” the CEO said.
“As the governor said the more we
do in partnership, the greater and the sooner we are able to meet the footprint
that we have planned for the year.”
“We believe strongly in
partnerships from collaboration all the way to the delivery of the project.”
