THE
betelnut ban exercise took an ugly twist last week when the Governor was issued
a death threat as reported by The National newspaper yesterday.
Deputy
City Manager for Community and Social Services issued the warning to those
issuing threats to the NCD Governor to think twice as they would be making
things worse for themselves.
“Threats
to the governor are not good and not necessary,” he said.
“It
is only making things worse for themselves- we are only enforcing the law and
not doing anything outside of it.”
Honk
Kiap, who is also a reserve Sergeant with the NCDC reserve police unit, said
that those responsible will have no affect on the city authority’s regulate the
consumption of the nut in the city.
“Those
threats we will not take lightly, we will find out who those culprits are
issuing those threats will be arrested and charged.”
“We
are taking those threats very seriously and we are sending a warning to them
that we are not going to back down because of those threats.”
He
said that they were the enforcers of the law residents and those from outside
had to respect that.
“If
they cannot respect that then they can find another place to come to, or go
back to their provinces,” Kiap said.
