ORGANIZERS of this Wednesday’s
performance by Jamaican-American Reggae singer and rapper Shaggy at the
Cosmopolitan in Port Moresby have urged all fans to be at the event early
before 9pm, as the star is set to belt out some his biggest world hits on the
night.
Sapience
Entertainment in collaboration with the Cosmopolitan Night Club are set to host
Shaggy who will arrive early on Tuesday this week before his one hour performance.
In
a media conference, Sapience Entertainment Managing Director Chey Scovell, and Promotions
Manager Francis Sakala, said that the performance would be the biggest one by
far for the Cosmopolitan, with 14 band members of on stage with the reggae star
in a live performance.
“As
you all know Shaggy has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, with seven
number one hits, eight number one singles, and five Grammy Awards,” said
Scovell.
“It
is a big act for those who have been grooving to his music since the early 1990s.
“He
is travelling with his full band and will also be featuring Rayvon who will be touring here with Shaggy and his band.”
Famous collaborations with the Barbadian
reggae singer include "In the Summertime" (Shaggy featuring Rayvon),
"Angel" (Shaggy featuring Rayvon), and "Out Of Control"
(Shaggy featuring Rayvon).
“We said when we first brought in
Mampi that we will be rolling out a number of really great acts, and Shaggy is
another.”
“Doors open at 7pm with
pre-performances by PNG acts, and it is a presold event like Mario’s
performance, there aren’t tickets sold at the door, and people need to get in
here early and come and see a great show,” he added.
When
asked why the event was to be held on Wednesday instead of the traditional
weekend days- the organisers said that the event was negotiated between three
tour locations in the week.
“The reason for the concert being
on a Wednesday instead of Friday because he is performing during the weekend
before the set date in New Zealand in the Ragamuffin Tour with other artists,”
Sakala said.
“After that he is to perform in
Japan the following weekend, so we negotiated to have him in between those two
events during the week.”
“The fact that the show is on a
Wednesday we are trying to start it early, not like what we’ve done when we had
shows on weekend days."
There are 1,350 tickets available
for the event that are going at K150 for General entry, and K300 for the
Crystal Lounge and are available at the Cosmopolitan Club presold after 10am till
the day before the event.
