WAIGANI Fire Station in the National
Capital District was the recipient of two N70 batteries for one of it grounded
fire trucks, from the National Development Bank (NDB) yesterday.
The donation will see the station operate
efficiently with both of its trucks, from only one, which they were previously
forced to operate with due to the lack new batteries.
Being in operation for over 20 years, the
fire truck in concerned seized to operate for almost a month, when its two
batteries failed.
Station Commander Leo Ovia thanked NDB for
their assistance, which he said would go a long way in helping them to perform
their duties in looking after a vast area of the city from Waigani, Tokarara,
June Valley, and Hohola.
NDB Managing Director, Moses Liu, expressed
his satisfaction in assisting the station to continue to provide what he said
was a very important service- to not only protect properties against the threat
of fire , but to also save lives threatened by it.
“It is a pleasure for NDB to come out and
work with the community, and though this is a small presentation- it is a very
important occasion for a very important organisation in the city.”
“It is quite a big area that you are
servicing and it is sad to see that your main fire engine has been down, so NDB
is happy to help in a small way.”
“We want to start going out to the
communities and help out, and this is one of many future assistance.”
He concluded by informing the stations of
the state bank’s plans to conduct fire drills and fire awareness for its staff
soon.
