RELATIVES of the late Wawe Kipa, from the Koroba district in Hela Province, are appealing
to the driver of a vehicle that accidentally ran into Mr Kipa along the
Poreporena Freeway, in Port Moresby, to come forward and help them understand what happened that
night.
The
incident occurred earlier this month on September 9, around 8:30pm, along the
Hohola portion of the freeway when the late Kipa crossed the road where there
have been many such accidents in the past.
Cousin
to the deceased and former Lake Kopiago MP, John Kekeno, made the appeal on
behalf of relatives for the driver of the 15 seater bus to come forward and
assist them piece together the fatal incident.
“We
want to know what happened, and we understand that it was an accident as the
deceased was intoxicated at the time.”
“I
make the appeal and assurance that there is no retribution intended to the
driver as we know that he is not legally responsible for the death of my
cousin.”
“We
just want closure, and assistance in the form of the insurance cover that most
registered vehicles would have to alleviate costs to the family of the
deceased,” he said.
The
only formalities that we need the driver to assist us with is for him give a
full report to the traffic police so as to have an official recollection of
what occurred.
He
also made an appeal to those who may have witnessed the accident or those who
have information about the accident to come forward and assist them; they
should call him on mobile number 70870427 or 73788667.
