DEPARTMENT of transport conducted milestone contract signings of it management heads by the Secretary Roy Mumu, last week at their headquarters in Port Moresby.

A total of 11 three year contracts were renewed and a new appointment made for Deputy Secretaries, First Assistant Secretaries (FAS), and Assistant Secretaries (AS) in the various divisions and arms within the department.

Secretary Mumu described the signings as a milestone ceremony for the department under new management, since his appointment to the top post seven months ago.

“Whatever previous contract you signed is now water under the bridge.”

“These contracts that I will sign with you- I will make sure that they are subject to performance.”

“That is the desire of government, and it is also my desire,” he said.

He reminded them about the many projects that the department was currently undertaking- with the main one being the delivery of the Highland Highway Rehabilitation Program, the Rural Airstrips Program, and the Rural Jetties Program all in line with the 2013 being the year of implementation.

“When you come to work every morning you come for a purpose in delivering something for people of Papua New Guinea.”

“You must evaluate your performance each day- this is what leadership and management is all about.”

Deputy Secretary for Technical Services Kevin Luana, thanked the Secretary for his confidence in them and reiterated the challenge to those present that they had to deliver- sentiments that were shared by Philip Habon, Deputy Secretary for Policy Planning and Corporate Services, who assured the Secretary of their full support.

The only new appointment was made to Kevin Luana’s position while Philip Habon and the rest of the contracted appointment were renewals.
