Loan scheme for tertiary students next year

PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill revealed that the government would introduce a loan scheme starting next year for student selected to attend various universities and the country and other colleges in 2015.

He made mention of the plans while speaking of the governments achievement in terms of the various programs it had implemented from the free healthcare policy to the free education policy.

The new scheme will be a step up from the free school fees in the formal education system and government’s previous assistance to student with the introduction of fortnightly allowances.

“Next year the government will set up a loan scheme for those attending universities and other colleges in the country,” the Prime Minister announced.

“This is where parents cannot be forced to beg or borrow money so that their kids can go to university.”

“Going to university is a right when you are selected to go.”

He added that the government was looking at various ways to create opportunities for all citizens, urging all young men and women to not waste their lives in unproductive activities.

“My appeal to young men and women is you to not waste your life- you were put here for a purpose, we are making tool available for you to utilize that purpose,” the PM added.
