THE President of the Papua New Guinea Kick Boxing Association (PNGKBA) has warned the promoter of the much publicized world titled fight between PNG’s Rickson Yamo and Finnish Welter Weight World Champion Jarrko Jussila, that the event was not a sanction event by the PNGKBA.

Association President and former World Champion in the sport Stanley Nandex has called on the promoter, Powerhouse Promotion, to put a hold to the event as it did not have the authority to promote or sanction any international shows or events.

In a press conference held by the PNGKBA hierarchy, Nandex said that he was concerned of the disregard given to the sanctioned body for the sport without notice by the promoting agency, which incidentally is run by the main event fighter Mr Yamo.

“There has to be some notice given to us to maintain the integrity of the sport in the country, which we have worked so hard to bring to the level it is at the moment,” Nandex said.

“The concern is that I am the president in the country and Powerhouse Promotions deals mainly with boxing- so when they have decided to host this event which is for kickboxing, I should have been consulted.”

“I have the full authority and power to run kickboxing tournaments in the country, and since it is a full contact and risky sport- we would not want to see things get out of hand.”

In a written letter received by the PNGKBA President from the World Kickboxing Federation (WKF) President Fritz Exenberger- it reiterated Nandex position and powers to negotiate with sponsors for events and all other belongings, to promote events under WKF rules and regulations.

“Your position have (has) all authorities and powers: to negotiate with sponsors and all other belongings, to promote events under WKF rules and regulations..,” the letter read.

Mr Nandex said that he was not against the staging of the event in the country, however, reiterated that courtesy should be given to the governing body as it would set a bad precedence for other events to be held independently- thus discrediting the professionalism and organization of the sport.

In an interview with the Sunday Chronicle, Fighter and promoter of Powerhouse Promotion, Rickson Yamo, said that the PNGKBA president should not mislead the people as his event was sanctioned by the world body already and listed on its website as an event on the WKF calendar.

He also made reference that Mr Nandex owned his own promoting company (KB-1 Promotions) which he claimed had a fallout with the world body due to non-payment of fees to WKF.

“My first fight against Jussila (which Yamo lost) was promoted under Stanley’s promoting company, after which I learnt that he had not made required payments to the world body that is why I wrote to the head office for this event and made two payments required by WKF under Powerhouse Promotions to hold two title events for both me and Lee Garap,” Rickson Yamo said.

“He must not continue to mislead the people because I have the right to host this event as I have met all requirements.”

Yamo also revealed that the WKF President was expected to attend the fight event that will be hosted at the Lamana Gold Club in the coming weeks.
