ONE of the biggest primary school in the Moresby North-East electorate has always being plagues by transportation problem- however; this will now be a thing of the past thanks to the assistance of the local government through its Member Parliament Labi Amaiu with the presentation of a new bus to service its logistics woes.

The Nissan Urvan NV350, 15 seater bus, is the second such assistance received by the Saint Peter’s Primary School from its local MP following the handing over of classrooms over a month ago.

Headmistress of the school Mrs Torombe said the school had always faced the problem of transportation, which she said, posed a danger to the safety of students in terms of their transportation in emergency cases and thanked Mr Amaiu for his assistance.

She revealed that since the establishment of the school in 1967 by St Peter’s Parish sisters- much of its infrastructure had been since then built by the church, and it was only in recent years that the school had seen much needed assistance from the electoral government.

“Most of the infrastructure we have has been put up by the parish, and they have helped us establish the three levels of education we provide here from elementary, primary, and vocational up at the parish area,” Torombe said.

“I would like to thank the member for his generosity towards the school that is the second largest in the district after, Evedahana Primary School, with close to 2,000 students.”

She also called on the MP to continue his assistance as the school still needed other essential facilities.

Labi Amaiu, in his address to the school said that he was making it his business to attend to the needs of schools in his district, and challenge them to take care of their vehicle.

“I know one of the biggest problems most schools in my district face is that of transportation and we will make it our business to support all schools in the Moresby North-East District,” Amaiu said.

“I hope you appreciate what you have been given, as funding is always hard to come by as there are many needs of the district and we cannot attend to all at once.”

The member, however, promised to attend to the schools needs through additional support initiatives.

Chairman of the school’s board Eddie Oa, emphasized an important point that the bus would be strictly used for the schools operations and nothing more- pointing out that as an addition to assisting emergency situations- it would also boost teachers punctuality in attending classes on time.
