THE Patron of the City Pharmacy Pride of Papua New Guinea Awards for Women, and Governor General of Papua New Guinea, Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio, launched the awards nominations for 2014, at the Ela Beach Hotel in Port Moresby.

CPL Pride of PNG Awards for Women is aimed at recognising selfless acts of strong vibrant women striving to impacts their communities.

The concept is now in its eight year, recognising women in the country in six categories of: Young Papua New Guinean, Bravery and Courage, Community Spirit, Care and Compassion, Environment, and Education Role Model.

Present to grace the launch were the heroes of last year’s awards like Mato Posu (Bravery and Courage 2013) and Nara Keti (Care and Compassion 2013).

Both testified of the confidence and appreciation they had toward the whole concept- something that recognises and values the contribution of PNG women to the development of the country.

Grand Chief Sir Michael Ogio said the awards concept was all about women who do what they can to assist their communities in the country’s cities, towns, villages, and settlements.

“They deserve our salutation and recognition to make Papua New Guinea a better place for all citizens,” the Governor General said.

“How can the country grow without recognising the potential of almost half (women) the population?”

“As patron, I am delighted to see the initiative as an avenue for our women who go the extra mile for us all.”

He called all Papua New Guineans to support the goal of the awards and seek out and nominate women in their communities they considered were true champion.

“Let us show that we hear them and that their efforts are not in vain, because without them PNG would not be a better place.”

CPL CEO Ravi Singh thanked staunch supporters PNG FM, EMTV, Post Courier and Air Niugini for their strong over the years.

Nomination forms for the 2014 awards will be available in the Post Courier, Stop n Shop outlets, City Pharmacy shops, and Hardware Stores around the country.

Close of nominations will be in September, with the date for the awards ceremony to be announced later.
