WITH the
completion of the second leg of the provincial debate competition concluded on
Friday- reigning champions from last year Port Moresby International School
(Pomis) took out the champion’s shield for the year in a row.
In a solid
performance by both finalists, the champions had to work hard for their victory
as the ladies from Marianville came out firing against the topic of ‘More
foreign loans will boost PNG’s economy’.
The second
leg of the provincial debate completion in the National Capital District saw
the participation of eight schools from all over the city like the two finalist
schools, De La Salle, Tokarara Secondary, Kopkop College, Juha College, Kila
Kila Secondary, and Don Bosco.
Best male
speaker for the competition went to Grade 12 Pomis debater Samuel Kavop, the
best female speaker going to Grade 12 Marianville debater Gayleen Hape.
With the
third leg of the provincial competition heading to Morobe Province- the
champion Pomis team of Diandra Paine,Samuel Kavop, Shajreen Kua, and Allen
Parker will now prepare for the regional championships, which will then
determine which school will go on for the national title and have a shot at the
Melanesian debate championship between Fiji, Vanuatu, and the Solomon Islands.
