PORT
Moresby is set to host a pair of music superstars in the world, with American
R&B superstar Mya, and Jamaican Reggae and Dancehall sensation Kevin Little
to grace the shores of the nation’s capital next month on June 13 and 14.
The
performance of both class acts will also feature the famous Solomon Islands
group DMP, who will be the opening acts for both shows.
Both shows have been organised by EmStret Entertainment, with the support of Sapience Entertainment, NCD Governor Powes Parkop, for the Voices for Villages project, with all funds to go towards much needed development projects at Babaka Village in the Rigo District of Central Province.
The fundraising
will cater for the building of classrooms for the local primary school, 12 bed
health centre, bore water project, sanitation, and solar power- in an proactive
approach to cater for the lack of development in vital services in the village.
EmStret Entertainment
Co-Director Haroun Rashid said that it was a great initiative undertaken by the
rural Central village to bring in much needed services that they have been
deprived of for years.
“The
village community has already raised K70,000 to date, which has been put up to
organise this event,” Rashid said.
“Friday
June 14 at Crown Plaza will be where a fundraising private dinner event will be
held where pledges can be made for the cause with opening performances from DMP
and Mya.”
“Saturday June
15 a public performance of both DMP, Kevin Little, and Mya will perform to a
paying audience in a concert that is anticipated to be huge.”
The
philanthropic Mya has devoted her time and resources to various causes, even founding
the Mya Arts and Tech Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to
providing disadvantaged youth growth and opportunity through arts and
technology education, in which she serves as the director and a teacher.
A Grammy
award winning artist with 16 years in the entertainment industry, featuring in
massively successful singles such as ‘It’s All About Me’, ‘Best of Me’, and
‘Lady Marmalade’.
Kevin
Little is well known abroad and in the country for his 2004 worldwide hit ‘Turn
Me On’, which reached number two in the UK, number 3 in Australia, and number
four in the US.
Formed in
2002, Door Mans Project, famously known as DMP, the boys from the Solomon
Islands have been a sensation since hitting the music waves in PNG and have
been a mainstay on the playlists of many in the country, with hits such as
‘Gole’, ‘All My Life’, and ‘I Cry’.
With a
target of a K1 million to raise the people of Babaka are serious in bringing
about change to their lives through the star power in music that have captured
many, and have called on all to support them and other villages to emulate the
drive through entertainment agents like EmStret and Sapience.
