NATIONAL Gaming Control Board (NGCB) and Boroko Motors
have come to the aid of the St Johns Ambulance Service through the delivery of
the first of two customised Range Rovers built to ferry patients who require
medical attention in Port Moresby.
Being the main service provider of ambulance services
in the city, the brand new ambulance will add to six ambulances in service for
the charitable organisation.
The well-equipped ambulance boasts a single stretcher
bed along with necessary equipment and seating for ambulance crews in the
customised Rover built to the specification of the ambulance service provider.
Director for Ambulance Services Mollen Molki said that
the inclusion of the new ambulance would boost their service capacity.
“Most of our current five vehicles have aged over the
years, some as old as 15 years, and we are happy for the assistance by PNG
Gaming Control Board and Boroko Motors,” Molki said.
“The last time we received such support was in 2008
from the then Member for Moresby North West Mekere Morauta.”
Boroko Motors Dealer Principle Geoff Evans said that
they were pleased to be associated with St Johns, holding the organisation in
high regard.
“It’s not that easy to provide a service such as what
they provide in such as diverse country as Papua New Guinea,” Evans said.
“The ambulance has been fitted by Land Rover- it is a
well-respected vehicle that is suited to the conditions in the country.”
“We hope that it brings a lot of assistance and aid to
people in need in Port Morsby.”
Evans added that the Rover was the first of its type
customised, adding that it would be suited for both the health sector and that
of other government agencies that require robust vehicles that could handle the
terrain.
“We have approached many other departments and
businesses that would be involved with this type of vehicle that would be
involved, in the rural areas,” Evans said
“They can be customised to suit the needs of the
customer with our arrangement with Range Rover.”
Delivery of a second bigger ambulance with two
stretcher capacity from Range Rover through NGCB and Boroko Motors will arrive
in the country in the coming weeks.
